An Experience with Non-Competitive Math Fairs

In March of this year, over 450 children from grades 3 to 9 attended a math fair at the University of Alberta. The fair was presented by pre-service teachers taking a first year Math course. In October and November of the previous term, another group of Education students took a math fair on the road to approximately the same number of students.

This talk will explain how this was accomplished, how the math fairs differ from science fairs, and how they are changing the attitudes of the school children and the in-service and pre-service teachers who take part.
