AMS Special Session on Set-theoretic techniques in Topology and Analysis to be held in Atlanta October 17-19, 1997.

Dear folks, Piotr and I intend to put all of you receiving this message on the tentative list of speakers for our Special Session on Set-theoretic Techniques in Topology and Analysis to be held in Atlanta this Fall (Oct. 17-19)...we need to send such a list soon to the AMS.

If it looks like any of you may not be able to make it, please let us know as soon as possible.

Here's some further information about the meeting. Our special session will be divided into four parts of 6-7 speakers each. It will start with an afternoon session on Friday, Oct. 17, there will be morning and afternoon sessions on Saturday the 18th, and, let us emphasize,

***there will be a Sunday morning session on the 19th***

Since many of you will likely have flights requiring an overnight stay on Saturday, we hope its the case that most of you will be able to attend the Sunday morning session. Of course, if it turns out you cannot attend any particular session, let us know so your talk will not be scheduled for that session.

The abstract deadline has been fixed...it's July 9. Abstracts should be submitted preferably electronically to the AMS. We include some instructions below. Please also email us a copy of your abstract.

Information about travel, hotels, etc., will be included in the appropriate issue of the Notices of the AMS. We may add to this some informal recommendations (including restaurants and entertainment) in a future email.

We will send out another reminder 3-4 weeks before the abstract deadline.

Sincerely, Gary Gruenhage and Piotr Koszmider

Info from the AMS re submission of abstracts:

Title: Set-theoretic techniques in topology and analysis
Event Code: AMS SS A1
Meeting Number: #926
Place: Atlanta, Georgia
Date of Meeting: October 17-19, 1997
Deadline Date: July 9, 1997

The Council requires that each speaker submit an abstract for publication in the journal Abstracts of the American Mathematical Society; it should be mailed or submitted electronically in time to arrive at our Providence office on or before the above deadline.

Electronic submission of abstracts is highly recommended and available in a variety of formats. No knowledge of TeX is necessary, however, coding in plain TeX, LaTeX, AMS-LaTeX and AMS-TeX can be accommodated. To see descriptions and to view the electronic templates available, visit the abstracts submission page at htttp://www.ams.org/abstracts/instructions.html, or send mail to abs-submit@ams.org typing HELP as the subject line. Please encourage your speakers to submit their abstracts electronically. In order to do so they will need the meeting number, the event code (both listed above), and a math subject classification.

Please pass on the following information to any speakers submitting electronic abstracts. Abstracts only should be submitted to address: ABS-SUBMIT@AMS.ORG typing SUBMISSION as the subject line. All questions concerning abstracts should be addressed to ABS-INFO@AMS.Org.

Please instruct your invited speakers to send you directly a copy of the abstract so that you may have it for scheduling purposes. (This is in addition to the copy submitted to the AMS.)

It is worth reiterating that all abstracts must be received before the deadline. Speakers will NOT be scheduled unless an abstract is received and late abstracts will NOT be accommodated. Organizers must stress this point to their invited speakers.
